Hurricane High Team Wins Inaugural WRoC After TARC Event

Mylan Park, Morgantown, WV, May 30, 2015

This spring WVRock decided that they had so much fun as mentors, teammates, and supporters of TARC this year that they did not want the fun to end.  So they developed WVRock Challenge (WRoC) after Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC), an open competition for WVRock members for the May monthly launch date.  The challenge was to build a rocket to achieve an altitude of 500 feet, have a flight time of 28-32 seconds, carry and return an egg unbroken, and return safely as a single unit.  Readers familiar with the 2015 TARC competition will note that there are some variations with respect to the TARC competition.

When all was said and done, the team from Hurricane High School took home the Golden Egg Beater Tropy as the winner of the competition, returning an unbroken egg with an altitude and time score closest to the targets.  Todd Ensign, president of WVRock, leader of the NASA Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) Educator Resource Center (ERC), and inspiration to many of the teams took second (was the fix in?).  SarahEllen Dillon, recent rocketry enthusiast, took third.
