One Local Team Launches, Remainder Scrubbed

February 22, 2014 - Mylan Park, Morgantown, WV

In one of the last Saturday's before the deadline for TARC bonus points for early launch qualifications, several local teams showed up, but few launches occurred.

TARC is the Team America Rocketry Challenge, an annual competition developed by the National Association of Rocketry for middle and high school students which aims to encourage interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The weather was beautiful with most of the recent snow gone and temperatures in the high 30s for the morning. However the wind was breezy with gusts over 20 mph. The wind died down long enough for one of the local team coaches to perform a test launch. However, after that the wind intensified and only one more launch occurred. That was a test launch by one of the teams, but stability problems, which appeared unrelated to the wind, were evident with the flight. After that the wind continued unabated and it was decided to scrub all further launch attempts for the day.

The early launch deadline is March 2, 2014, and launches will again be attempted next Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 9 AM again at Mylan Park.
